ReactiveConf 2019

“Ó moon high up in the deep, deep sky…“

That was the intro of Reactive conference 2019 and it was EPIC! Like every year, this year a Reactive conference was held in Prague. It was so amazing and full of inspirational speakers and developers, who brought a lot of valuable knowledge to us.

As the name of this conference suggests, It was in the spirit of one of the most used Javascript library called React (That is correct. We all know, that React is not a framework, but library! 😁). it’s no coincidence that we were there as well, because yes, Kontentino is being developed in React and React-native.

More than 70 speakers were talking about the newest topics and issues connected with modern development in Javascript. They introduced technologies and solutions related to applications architecture, PWAs, code sharing, error reporting, security, GraphQL or future of Javascript and many many more.

Now you can ask: “What was the most interesting topic for Kontentino developers?” Every single speech we attended was beneficial for us. Every month, week and day, we try to put the best solutions into Kontentino applications. So we took a lot of inspiration about what other companies and developers use for their issues and projects.

We were focused on how to write better tests. There was a speaker named Gleb Bahmutov, who was speaking about if tests make a sense and what tests are important for projects and how to minimize error rate in the code. We all know, testing is a drag, testing is boring… 😀 But, we write tests, because it is the right way how to develop new features.

Types. Are types an integral part of code? Exactly! There were many other speakers like Matthew Gerstman from Dropbox, Anton Tuzhik from Semrush, Bennie Gillam from PostGraphile or Nader Dabit from AWS, who were talking about why are types so important not only for front-end development but also for back-end development. That we can bridge to the next topic: GraphQL.

GraphQL, one technology, million opinions. The speech was not just about single endpoint benefit. They told a lot about why GraphQL makes a sense to develop a quick and safe backend side of the project.

In Kontentino, we love types. GraphQL is typed. Do we love GraphQL? Guess!

We also liked presentations from Ladislav Navratil, Liz Ukraine, Florian Rival, Sean Larkin, and Johannes Ewald or Evan Bacon. They were talking about error reporting, why is shared components architecture positive for projects or why is React the right library you can use for your application. We had a chance to meet and talk in person with Nader Dabit, author of the book “React Native in action”. Such an amazing time to be part of this huge community and know about predictions to the future of Javascript technologies.

Conclusion

In general, we took a lot of new knowledge. Since we came back from the conference, we are talking about how to improve all the stuff we are going to develop in the future and we put these pieces of knowledge into Kontentino products every single day, what we are developing.

Not to forget.. be careful about what NPM packages you use and check vulnerability before you decide to use it! This topic was also an interesting part of the Reactive conference in 2019.
